Mendoza

Mendoza… The place where we drank so much wine we forgot to take photos, were official witnesses to a wedding and met some great people + a cool dog called Keith.

Mendoza, Argentina is a beautiful city surrounded by mountains and is known for its wine growing. We spent five days there at a hostel and our favourite activity was visiting three amazing vineyards. On our third day we caught a bus out to the region of Maipu where we hired bikes with a couple we met at the hostel and a quad lingual Swiss friend of theirs. It made for an awesome day out enjoying very generous (whole glass) tasters of many varietals along with some pasta for lunch. The bike tour ended back at the rental shop with all you can drink Malbec on the house.

As we had been drinking wine since 10:30am I’m surprised we made the 40 minute bus trip back without any issues. Luckily we made it home around 6pm, just in time to attend a wedding.

Long story short, on our first night out at dinner we met a couple at dinner who told us they were in Mendoza to get married. They were eloping due to paperwork issues in Peru so had booked a 10 day holiday to make them officially husband and wife in Argentina. After an hour of talking they asked us if we could be the official witnesses to their wedding in two days time. Being chilled as always we agreed.

The next day we accompanied them to the government house with two other people they met in the park to sign some documents. The day after was scheduled for the wedding at 7pm, at their Air BnB. After the winery visit described earlier we made it just in time. Afterwards, they took us out for a Parilla steak meal accompanied with more wine and cocktails afterwards. By 3:30am we were well and truly done for and managed to make it home on foot without getting mugged or kidnapped.

The next day, our fourth day was spent surviving on McDonald’s dulce de lèche soft serve ice-creams.

On our final day we visited San Martin Park and treated ourselves to another exceptional steak meal out.

Our time in Mendoza was surprisingly memorable due to the significant amount of wine consumption. We didn’t take a lot out with us except for some money, our phones and a water bottle so that meant we didn’t end up taking any photos on the camera. We managed to get a few pictures on matts phone and forgot to get a picture of Keith, the gorgeous hostel dog.
