We caught the train from York to Newcastle to catch up with some friends we met way back in Mendoza, Argentina. We had such a fun day out wine tasting with a Patrick and Laura that they invited us to visit when we were over in the UK. We stayed one night with them where we caught up on travel stories since Argentina and met their beautiful puppy Luna! They took us to the beach which was really lovely and we had fish and chips for the first time in seven months – so good. We didn’t get many photos in Newcastle, except for this one at the beach. Kind of like Mendoza again, wine, food and not many pictures 😎.

After a night in Newcastle we caught the train to Carlisle (a strange choice apparently, mentioned by many). Carlisle is definitely not a tourist city but we decided to stay there for three nights so that we could explore a bit of the Lakes District which is just South. On our first day we got in in the afternoon so just had a late lunch and relaxed then on the second day we caught a train to Penrith and then a bus to the lakeside town of Keswick. We spent the day walking different tracks around the lake with fantastic weather. On our last day we did a riverside walk through Carlisle as well as a little bit of the Hadrian’s Wall Path which is where the Romans built a wall from one coast of England to the other, with much of it still remaining today. We didn’t see any of the wall but it was still a nice place to spend the afternoon. The following day we caught the train to Edinburgh to begin our two week road trip through Scotland!
