Cambridge – York

Cambridge

We caught the train from London to Cambridge on the 7th of August for one night.

Rail travel is so seamless and reliable, it makes for a pleasant transit experience. We spent our time here wowed by the old buildings and colleges. From there we caught another train to York where we spent two nights.

York

York is an incredibly old city, dating back to before the Viking times. There is an old medieval street with many of the existing buildings built in the 1300’s called The Shambles which has served as one of the inspirations for JK Rowling’s Diagon Alley. The 13th century York City Walls were particularly interesting and are the longest town walls in England. We spent a morning walking the full loop on the walls around the city, seeing many other cool medieval buildings along the way, including the York Minster church which has history back until the 600’sAD. As well as exploring the city we enjoyed having craft beers and pub meals thinking about what the city would have been like thousands of years ago and how it has changed today. Unfortunately the Viking centre was super busy and as we hadn’t pre booked a slot we couldn’t visit, we would love to go back to York and make sure we pre organise a trip to the centre as we have heard rave reviews about it!
